You can apply in one country and ask that country to consider your application as a right to benefits from the other country. Each country will process the law according to its own laws, count the other country`s appropriations, as required by the agreement, and inform you of its decision. For the United States, the agreement includes Social Security taxes (including Medicare`s U.S. share) and pension, disability and survivor benefits. It does not cover benefits under the U.S. Medicare program or the ISS (security supplement). Section 233 of the Social Security Act. In the amended version [42 U.S.C. 433], we are allowed to collect information for a warranty certificate. We use the information you provide to determine if the U.S. social system covers your current work in accordance with a Social Security agreement. The information you provide on this form is optional. However, if we do not provide all or part of the requested information, we may prevent you from making a specific and timely decision on your application for a coverage certificate.
Without the certificate, the United States and foreign social security systems can cover and tax your income. Both the agreement and the administrative agreement were signed in Bern on 3 December 2012. Effective August 1, 2014. replaced a previous agreement between the United States and Switzerland, which came into force on 1 November 1980. The agreement can help you, your family and your employer: if you are entitled to U.S. Social Security benefits and a pension from Switzerland and you do not need the agreement to receive one of the two benefits, U.S. law may reduce the amount of your benefit.
